For our trip to Grey Owl’s cabin, we need some tents. Mark will carry a one person tent along and I bought this one for Jordon and I yesterday for $16 from Wal-Mart. We set it up last night and while it fits me great, like all three person tents, it is a bit crowded for Jordon but it will work well. Hopefully the fly won’t be needed and we can lay out under the stars. I do need some stuff to seal the seams in case it rains but other than that, it’s one thing to be checked off the list.

‘Twas the week before Christmas
After three weeks of violently coughing, I am over the worst of it. Finally. I have no voice (I coughed it out last week) but I am not coughing so hard I throw up. It seems like a big victory.
Here is what what is new around here.
- I turned 42 and I was able to get out for dinner with the Reimers, Lee/Brittany and Jordon/Oliver. Mark didn’t come as he has been ridiculously bad and is grounded to the kitchen table for a while longer. This hurt me quite a bit as no one likes seeing their son struggle and it really hurt him but after some tears were shed, he is understanding that every action has a consequence. He has promised to make it up to me and is taking Jordon, Oliver, and I out for lunch on Christmas Eve. Reimers got me a great light/smell infuser while Lee/Brittany gave me a gift card for Indigo. Lee promptly told me he wanted a Christmas gift from Indigo so it will all work out in his mind.
- Jordon is feeling a bit better but is still quite ill. It made for a quiet weekend around the house as Jordon really needed the weekend to rest up and get better. His hearing still sucks and that is a concern but it is going to take a while to come back.
- Maggi has ruined two Christmas gifts. She apparently has a smell for chocolate. Dumb dog.
- Christmas shopping is done except I need to get some batteries and some more wrapping paper which I will do at Dollarama tomorrow. We picked up a couple of last minute gifts this weekend but we more or less avoided the craziness that was the malls. Jordon went into Cool Collectibles to get himself a Saskatchewan Roughrider lanyard and that just about drove him insane. We went to Canadian Tire which was full of good deals and small crowds and Wal-Mart which was not nearly as scary as you would think this close to Christmas.
Weekend
It was a quiet weekend around here. After over a decade of always working weekends, I find myself with them off which is both a good and a bad thing. A good thing in that I get to spend some time with the guys and a bad thing in that I have no idea what to do on a weekend and can drive them crazy.
We did do some fun stuff this weekend. As I wrote over at the cabin weblog, we are torn over what kind of chairs to get for the cabin so we checked out Home Depot, Wal-Mart, Canadian Tire, Costco, and a few other places and looked at chairs, debated a little bit about what to do and checked out some other options for the front patio.
It looks like we are looking at putting in 8 24×30 patio stones in the front and rebuilding the front step. I get stressed out a bit if I can’t see it and Jordon took me to the 2×6 econo studs and showed me some patio stones. For under $100 we will have a pretty nice front sitting area that should make the cabin a little nicer looking. Lee thinks we need a fence around the front patio and I may or may not agree, depending on the day. Jordon did bring up that we can put in a small fence/deck railing around the patio later on quite easily and I am wondering if that is the way to go.
One of the reasons Jordon and I decided on using pavers is that a co-worker of his reminded him that even if five years from now we change our mind, we will always have another use for some pavers and he is right.
We also did some shoe shopping for Mark (who also has a redesigned blog). His shoes are officially larger than mine now. While Jordon and him were at Staples, Jordon bought him Star Wars: Republic Heroes for his PSP. Also while we were at Wal-Mart, Jordon picked out a rather nice summer dress for me which will be nice to wear once the weather gets better.
Mark had hoped that we could have our first fire of the season. While that is a possibility later, it is rather windy so we may wait until next weekend.
Next weekend is Gardenscape which I think we will take in. Of course the weekend after that is the Draggins Rod and Custom Car Show as well as the Saskatoon Police Bike Auction as well as heading up to the lake so it will be a busy Easter weekend.
