Cam Broten | Saskatoon Massey Place

Cam Broten  has launched his re-election website which is as clear a sign as any that the election campaign has started.  While the writ doesn’t officially drop until next month, I thought I would post this now.

Re-Elect Cam BrotenI don’t pay a lot of attention to provincial politics.  In Manitoba and in Saskatchewan I generally voted for the Progressive Conservatives provincially and whatever version of the Conservative Party that was running federally.  In 2003, I voted NDP for the first time when Eric Cline impressed Jordon while door knocking (somewhere Jordon and Warren Kinsella are both yelling, “campaigns matter” as I write this) and I voted for Cam last time around.   Since then I have seen him off and on as he lives in the area and I see him come into Safeway a fair amount and we briefly chat.  I know this isn’t as big of deal to some as it is to me but working retails and meeting a lot of politicians, their behaviour can be quite demeaning at times so I always appreciate how Cam has treated both me and all of my co-workers (for the record, when I worked on the east side, John Gormley was always extremely pleasant as well every time he came into our store).   Cam has worked with Jordon more and while he is neutral, he appreciates and enjoys working with Cam a lot on poverty and west side issues.  Plus, when Jordon was in the hospital, Cam snuck up late for a chat with him.

I know most people vote according to leaders and I think Brad Wall has done a really good job as Premier and by this poll, it really looks like the Saskatchewan Party will be re-elected but even if they are, I think Saskatchewan is better off with Cam Broten being re-elected.  I am not a partisan NDP and there are parts of the NDP campaign platform that I am uncomfortable with (I don’t like the potash royalty review) but I do like the idea of rent controls.

While I don’t talk about politics often, I thought that I would post my own personal endorsement this time around; I think Cam Broten deserves another term as a Saskatoon Massey Place MLA.

You can find more about his relection campaign online, follow him on Twitter, or check out why he is running again here.
