The Christmas Kettle Cartel

When you put money in a Salvation Army Kettle, expect changeOn Friday nights for the last several years, Jordon  and Mark spend their Friday nights picking up five and then eventually six Christmas kettles for the Salvation Army.  It started on accident but Friday nights work out perfectly for Mark as they allow him to stay out late with Jordon and have a great time.  Last year Safeway was nice enough to give me most Friday nights off in December and i help out as well.

The first year it was just Jordon and Mark and as they were leaving with a kettle from the Mall at Lawson Heights, Mark whispered to Jordon, “What are you doing?”  Jordon said, “Well we are grabbing this kettle and taking it down to have it counted.”  Mark nervously whispered back, “You can’t take this kettle, we’re stealing from Santa Claus!”  It took him a couple of weeks to get the full concept of what him and his dad were doing.

If you can’t get to a Kettle, you can still give online (and get a charitable receipt).  Click on this link to support the work of the Salvation Army in Saskatoon.  The donation goes to support the work of the Salvation Army Community Centre, Bethany House, and Mumford House so in other words you are helping men, women, and children in crisis all across in Saskatoon.
